Who We Are
Let’s face it…It’s hard to be positive in an unhappy world, or in a negative organizational climate. In fact, wired into the brain is an evolutionary tendency to focus on threat rather than safety (AKA the negativity bias).
The good news is that it is possible to override this tendency , escape the sea of stress and negativity that surrounds us and overcome new challenges while learning how to increase productivity, positivity and the quality of life… As a leader, this is your most important function.
The research in this area is incredibly definitive: when our focus is fear and stress-based, we often end up with the outcome we most fear because our brain ignores the possibilities, opportunities, and solutions that we most need. Apply this logic to your own organization – not a pretty picture.
We at InSight Services Leadership paint a more dynamic picture:…..we believe that everyone is Whole, Creative, and Resourceful, and we are dedicated to helping leaders find and magnify the best parts of themselves and those with whom they interact. We know that in doing so, not only will teams and organizations succeed, but the individuals within those teams and organizations will be happier, more productive and engaged, and actually live longer, as backed by research!
WE ARE NOT Pollyannas, nor do we have our heads stuck in the sand; we recognize that leaders and organizations are faced with a myriad of real challenges, both large and small. We have the skills and expertise to help reframe those threats into opportunities, and utilize the plasticity of the brain to create a mindset that allows leaders to think, feel and act most productively.
WE ARE a team of highly educated ,experienced and dynamic professionals who have helped leaders in many industries to change team and company culture in a way that directly impacts bottom line productivity…and creates a happier, more engaged workforce. We do that by leaning towards the positive in our own lives, recognizing the power of this mindset, and utilizing all we know ( and continue to learn) in the area of positivity, neuroscience and leadership!
A message from Kathy Poehnert, InSight Services Leadership Founder and CPO (Chief Positivity Officer!)
From a very young age I have been very curious, inquisitive and creative, and yes, at times, a rebel. ( as my Dad used to say-“if you tell Kathy the sky is blue, she will tell you …….no, It’s actually purple”). This curiosity and challenging of the status quo has been, at times, a liability, but I have come to embrace and be grateful for this aspect of who I am, and now see it as one of my most precious strengths. It allows me to see the big picture in ways that sometimes others cannot, and helps me to focus in on the essence of matters rather than getting stuck in the particulars. I use this strength to know what the right questions are to ask a client so as to get the most insight, and know when to disallow convention to dictate solutions.
As I have become more cognizant of the rampant negativity that surrounds me, particularly in response to challenging circumstances, I have undertaken a personal and professional quest to , not only understand why that mindset exists, but to learn how to shift that tendency in myself and others to a more positive and optimistic mindset. As someone who has, in the past, been diagnosed with depression, this journey has made a tremendous difference in my life.
Having coached , trained, and trained coaches (!) for many years, I co-created The Positivity Project , (www.thepositivityproject.info) in 2013 after living through Hurricane Sandy, on the Jersey Shore and experiencing the myriad of both positive and negative reactions to a very challenging circumstance. My colleague, Alan Samuel Cohen ( who almost lost his home in hurricane Irene) and I interviewed many global experts in the fields of Optimism, positivity and happiness, which then led me to further educate myself and become certified in the area of Applied Neuroscience. This has been a tremendous asset to my Executive clients, as I can help them to bring out and utilize their greatest strengths, see and utilize the best qualities in their teams and simply be happier and more productive
My path has taken many twists and turns, all adding to the wisdom I have gained…but I ultimately have stayed true to the little girl Kathy who loves to learn, question, share knowledge and have fun! Please join me on this journey!
Positively,
Kathy
